Ntare, Soroti Municipal SS Join over 20 schools for STEM Championship

Kampala, Uganda – 25th November 2024, Ntare School and Soroti Municipal Secondary School have joined over 20 schools for the first-ever Ugandan National STEM and Vex Robotics Education Championship.

In an exciting milestone for Ugandan education, 23 schools and a home school team have confirmed their participation in the Championship slated for November 29th, 2024, with the Minister of Education and Sports Hon Janet Kataaha Museveni as the Chief Guest. L

The event, themed “The Future is now: Empowering Uganda’s Next Generation of Innovators,” will bring together over 300 students organized into 40 teams, ready to demonstrate their skills and creativity in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Hosted by the African School of Innovations Science and Technology Limited, the championship is designed to inspire a new generation of STEM enthusiasts while providing students with hands-on experience in robotics and engineering.

The event sponsors include UNDP, NEC- UPDF, Kaziire Health Products, JADA Coffee, Eaton Corporation, Vex Robotics, REC_foundation, Ministry of ICT and National Guidance and Young Engineers Uganda.

This year’s championship comes with high stakes, as the top five teams will earn the chance to represent Uganda at the Vex World Robotics Championship in Dallas, USA, next year.

“This championship is about more than just competition—it’s about building a foundation for Uganda’s future innovators,” shared the event organizers. “Students will gain critical skills in problem-solving, teamwork, and creative thinking that are essential in today’s technology-driven world.”

As Uganda’s top young minds gather to compete, the Uganda National STEM and Vex Robotics Education Championship promises to be an inspiring showcase of talent and potential, marking an important step towards positioning Uganda on the global STEM stage.

The African School of Innovations Science and Technology (ASIST) Ltd is Uganda’s STEM and Robotics education organization. It was founded in 2015 by journalist and entrepreneur Arinaitwe Rugyendo to nurture the next Generation of Scientists, Innovators, problem solvers, Entrepreneurs, and Critical thinkers through its flagship program- The Young Engineers Uganda.  

ASIST Ltd, a premier education enhancement program, has since focused on promoting STEM education skills in over 30 Ugandan schools, driving innovations and technological education to over 6000 children shaping and preparing them for the future workforce. 

Through their flagship brand Young Engineers Uganda, they have been instrumental in pioneering STEM programs across schools, promoting robotics, engineering, and digital literacy from an early age.

The programme has become a premier flagship initiative, providing students with the tools to compete in international arenas such as the VEX Robotics World Championship.
